Tell Your Representative: Make Husband-Wife Marriage Great Again!

Tell your Tennessee State Representative you want him or her to make marriage between a man and woman great again! How can that be done? By co-sponsoring and voting for the Marital Contract Recording Act, House Bill 233.

House Bill 233 releases a man and woman from the shackles of a state law that says a competent man and woman cannot become husband and wife without first getting a “permit”—a license—from the state of Tennessee.

Surely state government has a legitimate interest in providing a way for a man and woman to prove to the world that they are married, but to say they cannot marry without a “permit” from the state….well, that makes government the “owner” of what God created and gave to man and woman.

House Bill 233 authorizes County Clerks to accept a document from a man and woman that tells the world that they have taken each other as husband and wife—a document called a “record of marriage.”

Those who still want a “government permit” to marry can get one, but House Bill 233 rests on the belief that the husband-and-wife relationship is created by the promises made between man and woman, not by government permit.
